Description
Overview of the medicine
Livwel Syrup is a multivitamin and L-Lysine supplement primarily used to improve appetite, manage nutritional deficiencies, and support overall health and liver function. It is often recommended for growing children, adults, and during convalescence.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults: 2 teaspoonfuls (10ml) 2-3 times daily, or as directed by physician. Children (1-4 years): 1/2-1 teaspoonful (2.5-5ml) 2-3 times daily. Children (above 4 years): 1-2 teaspoonfuls (5-10ml) 2-3 times daily.
Elderly
Elderly patients can follow adult dosage, but caution with other medications and renal function is advised.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment is generally required for mild to moderate renal impairment, but caution is advised. Consult a physician.
How to Take
Livwel syrup should be taken orally, preferably with or after meals to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort and enhance absorption.
Mechanism of Action
The B vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B12, Niacinamide, D-Panthenol) are essential coenzymes involved in various metabolic processes, including energy production, red blood cell formation, and nervous system function. L-Lysine is an essential amino acid crucial for protein synthesis, tissue repair, and enzyme production. It also acts as an appetite stimulant by influencing certain metabolic pathways.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Nutritional benefits are gradual, typically observed over days to weeks of regular use. Appetite stimulation may be noticed sooner.
Excretion
Water-soluble B vitamins and excess L-Lysine are primarily excreted via the kidneys in urine.
Half life
Variable for individual components (e.g., water-soluble B vitamins have short half-lives and are not stored significantly).
Absorption
B vitamins and L-Lysine are readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, primarily in the small intestine.
Metabolism
B vitamins participate in various metabolic pathways. L-Lysine is metabolized via transamination and subsequent oxidation.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients
Drug Interactions
Levodopa
Pyridoxine (Vit B6) may reduce the effects of Levodopa.
Certain antacids
May impair absorption of some vitamins.
Tetracycline antibiotics
Some vitamins/minerals may interfere with the absorption of tetracyclines. Separate administration by at least 2-3 hours.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Overdose is unlikely with water-soluble vitamins as excess amounts are excreted. However, extremely high doses of certain vitamins over a prolonged period can cause side effects. Symptoms might include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea. Management involves discontinuing the product and symptomatic treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe at recommended doses, but always consult a physician before use during pregnancy or lactation to ensure safety and appropriate dosage.
